Real Estate Litigation
The single largest area of our practice has been the representation of title insurance companies, their insureds and private clients in a variety of disputes concerning the purchase, sale, financing, ownership and use of real property. We have represented owners, sellers, buyers, developers and investors, landlords and tenants, borrowers and lenders. Matters litigated have included claims of adverse possession (two cases tried to judgment), specific performance of purchase contracts, quiet title actions, mortgage foreclosures, recording and lien priority disputes, co-op and condominium disputes, title insurance coverage disputes and conveyances by religious corporations. We handle controversies arising out of all aspects of real estate acquisition, financing, development, construction, investment, management, ownership, easements, leasing and sale.
Banking and Financial Services Litigation
We have represented financial institutions, large and small, in negotiable instrument cases (forged signatures, forged endorsements), collection actions, lender liability disputes, letter of credit claims, Fair Credit Reporting Act disputes, Expedited Funds Availability Act and Reg. CC disputes, and a variety of other federal and state statutory and common-law claims. Due to our longstanding representation of banks in a variety of matters, we have a detailed knowledge of bank internal operating procedures and of the regulatory and compliance issues faced by banks, and can advise them as to these issues.
We have represented both domestic and international clients in numerous different commercial disputes, in both state and federal court. We are familiar with the recurring procedural and choice-of-law issues that arise in these cases, such as application of the Hague Convention on Service Abroad and the Hague Convention on Taking Evidence Abroad. The firm is able to conduct business in French and Korean as well as English.
We have handled a number of will contests and probate disputes. Mr. Knapp, Mr. McKenzie and Ms. Quaid are also on the Office of Court Administration guardian ad litem list, and have received multiple appointments in such capacity.

We provide comprehensive estate planning and probate services to individuals seeking to distribute assets, eliminate or negotiate disputes during probate, and/or leave clear instructions for medical care and financial decisions.
